Brooklyn Eagle Claw Eagle Claw Info

Eagle Claw Kung Fu (also known as Ying Jow Pai or Ying Jow Faan Tzi Moon) can be traced back as far as the Southern Sung Dynasty (A.D. 1127-1279). It evolved from the Elephant style, which got its name from the use of heavy fixed stances and its reliance solely on hand techniques.

Eagle Claw is a beautiful fascinating style that consists of empty hand forms, partner forms and weapon forms. It is most famous for its 108 locking techiques. The eagle claw kung fu hand becomes an eagle's talons and is used to apply joint locks and attack pressure points. There are many hand techniques designed to lead the attacker into a position where one of the locks may be applied.

Chigung plays a special role in this system. It teaches the student to focus their strength to one point of their body. By practicing different Chigung exercises the person learns how to concentrate all their power to their finger tips, arms and legs.

He was originally introduced to Zhèngshitaijiquan (Zheng Style Extreme Extremities Boxing), which led to the study of Xinyangshitaijiaquan (Contemporary Yang Style Extreme Extremities Boxing), which would enhance with the study of orthodox Yang Style Taijiquan, i.e., Dongshitaijiquan, and Guangpingshitaijiquan.

While having over 25 years of experience in various styles of Chinese martial arts, Sifu Nuñez has been well regarded as a freelance journalist/writer for various martial arts periodicals, as well as a promoter/organizer of martial arts events across the United States.

Kwazi Hewlett

Kwazi Hewlett
Originally started his martial arts training dabbling in Uechi Ryu Karate back in 1996. Two years later he looked seriously for a martial art more suited for his needs, and started training with Master Kenneth Edwards in Pasadena CA. He studied some Wah Lum Mantis, but the majority of his teachings revolved around Ying Jow Faan Tzi Moon, or Northern Eagle Claw.

Receiving his first level black sash in late 2001, he then went across country to continue training in Ying Jow under the direct guidance of Grand Master Leung Shum at his New York headquarters. When the headquarters moved locations in late 2005, Kwazi decided to venture out with one of Master Shum's top students Sifu Julio Perez. The two worked together and got the oppurtunity to open their own location in Brooklyn in 2008, and have pushed to spread the knowledge of Ying Jow Pai throughout the community.

Master Julio Perez is committed to making sure that all Instructors at Brooklyn Eagle Claw Kung Fu are continuously refining their martial arts and teaching skills. Thereby guaranteeing all students will receive the highest level of quality instruction and personalized attention.
