Eagle Claw Kung Fu (also known as Ying Jow Pai or Ying Jow Faan Tzi Moon) can be traced back as far as the Southern Sung Dynasty (A.D. 1127-1279). It evolved from the Elephant style, which got its name from the use of heavy fixed stances and its reliance solely on hand techniques.
Eagle Claw is a beautiful fascinating style that consists of empty hand forms, partner forms and weapon forms. It is most famous for its 108 locking techiques. The eagle claw kung fu hand becomes an eagle’s talons and is used to apply joint locks and attack pressure points. There are many hand techniques designed to lead the attacker into a position where one of the locks may be applied.
Chigung plays a special role in this system. It teaches the student to focus their strength to one point of their body. By practicing different Chigung exercises the person learns how to concentrate all their power to their finger tips, arms and legs.

MASTER LEUNG SHUM, the godson and top student of the late Grandmaster Ng Wai Nung, ran the Hong Kong school of Eagle Claw from the 1950's, and came to America in 1972 to teach the system.
He is one of the only instructors in the entire world qualified to teach the entire system, including the famous 108 locking techniques of Ngok Fei. When not traveling to his various schools around the world, Master Shum teaches on Saturdays in New York City.
He is also a highly respected instructor of Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan. He learned Wu style from Ng Wai Ngun who learned the style in the Ching Mo Gymnasium and trained with Master Cheng Wing Kwong, a famous Wu style Tai Chi Chuan instructor in Hong Kong.
