Master Julio Perez began his martial arts training in Brooklyn, New York; at the age of eleven in the art of Okinawan Goju. Upon relocation to Jersey City, New Jersey he began practicing Tae Kwon Do from various masters. For serveral years he focused his attention on improving on his fighting skills by learning boxing techniques from local area gymnasiums.

In 1988 Master Julio Perez began his training at the Ying Jow Pai Kung Fu Academy in New York City, under the world renowned Eagle Claw Great Grand Master Leung Shum. He found they offered a well rounded system which he had been searching for. After dedicating himself to training, he became one of the top fighters in this style known for his locking skills. After 10 years he became one of six people under the Great Grand Master Leung Shum to have earned the title of "Master".

In 1999, Master Julio Perez relocated to the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. Here he joined his training brother Thomas Torres in founding the Puerto Rico branch of Ying Jow Pai. Together they spread the reputation and authenticity of the system throughout the island, gaining a loyal following in the process and ultimately developing schools in 3 other cities. Now, with the help of his dedicated disciple Erick Cintron, who is one of lead members of the Ying Jow Pai Association of Puerto Rico and operates the Guayama branch; Master Julio Perez still maintains a strong tie to his family of students and grand-students. After more than 17 years he is still recognized as one of the top Eagle Claw practitioners.
